G.H. Bass Energy Audit

 

Facility Description


The G. H. Bass company of Wilton Maine produces and assembles all the essential components of  various styles of men's and women's footwear. The facility has an annual production of 1.5 million pairs ranging in price from 45 to 50 dollars. Typically, 400 employees are involved in  the day to day operations, and the company has annual sales approximating 67 million dollars. The work schedule for office workers is twelve hours a day from Monday up to Friday. The approximate operating schedule for the employees working in production is also made up of one shift working 5 days a week. The warehouse employees operate on two shifts from Monday to Friday and 50% of the employee’s work an average of 4 hours on Saturday and 25% of them will work 8 hours on Sunday.

The facility covered in the assessment consisted of one large complex. The complex is actually composed of several smaller buildings that have been added over the years and they are all interconnected.

The main office areas have a wall thickness of 9 inches and have 4 inches of fiberglass insulation. The type of wall construction is metallic brick veneer and the roof has an outer layer of rubber.

The Stock Fitting area and the Processing area both have a wall thickness of 15 inches with 3 inches of rigid foam insulation and a wall construction type composed of metal beams with a sheet metal jacket. They both have roofing with 6 inches of fiberglass insulation and an outer protection layer of tar and gravel.

The Distribution area has a wall thickness of 22 inches with 4 inches of fiberglass insulation and a wall construction type composed of metal beams with a sheet metal jacket. The roof has 6 inches of fiberglass insulation and an outer protection layer of tar and gravel.

The facility has two boiler rooms each housing two boilers used for the facility. It has various lighting systems and 5 hot air furnaces, which heat the main plant.

This plant was shut down roughly 6 months after we finished this report.
